A few weeks ago, I wrote about Tenessee based producer, Super Duper and his new hit track, Angela (dedicated to his wife). After this quick write up, I decided to reach out to him to ask for an interview. He responded quickly and was happy to be a part of Sights N’ Sounds. I definitely see this guy blowing up in the electronic scene vey soon!

Super Duper, actually named Josh Hawkins, recently had Angela hit #1 on Hype Machine. With over 100k plays on Soundcloud and his first show under his belt, fans anxiously await to see what is coming next. Check out the interview below.

• Your music on Diamonds & Doubt seems to have a different sound and feel compared to tracks such as Angela & your Sabotage remix. What brought about the change?

I think I’m still trying to develope my signature sound. I love ‘Diamonds & Doubt’ but a lot of my more recent songs have been influenced from different genres. I’ve started producing some hip hop and indie pop projects so I feel like that is starting to bleed over into my Super Duper work. I feel like I’m starting to figure out how I want to sound but every song is another exploration into uncharted territory and I like switching it up. It keeps writing feeling new and exciting.

• What plans do you have for a new EP or full length album? Anything to expect in the near future?

I have a new album nearly finished that will hopefully be out later this year. It has a couple instrumental tracks, but most of the album has featured artists; all of which are from Nashville. I’m really excited to show people a different side of Nashville on this album. I also have a couple of remixes that will be released pretty soon as well.

• What did you listen to growing up and who are your biggest musical inspirations now?

I’m not gonna lie, I listened to the radio a lot growing up so I’ll always have a soft spot for pop. Once I got to high school and started writing music my interest shifted into electronic music. So at that point, I started listening to Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers and Air. I’m currently really inspired by M83 and a lot of other producers on soundcloud.

• Most electronic artists have a genre associated with them and their music. What genre would you say your music most aligns with?

I would have to say electronic music. I know thats pretty broad but I think adding any other tags would put me in a box, and I want to be able to try different things.

• Where do you hope to go from here, both musically and professionally as a producer? What can we expect from Super Duper in the future?

I’m trying to get a live show together (finally). I just played my first show this month and it was a lot of fun so hopefully that will continue to grow. I would also like to work more on the production side of song writing and start working with more artists.
